Student Placements

At NYP, we are committed to giving back to our profession that has given us so much and are passionate about providing opportunities for potential physiotherapists of the future.

What We Offer

Work experience shadowing:

We are very happy to accommodate anyone aged 16 and over who are interested in finding out more about physiotherapy to spend 3 days shadowing at one, or both, of our clinics. This placement provides you an opportunity to see a wide range of clients with differing conditions and the variety of treatments we use within physiotherapy to help them. You will see us in action in individual treatment rooms, in our rehabilitation gym, and in in-person exercise classes and online exercise classes.

You will get a chance to shadow various members of our team, learning from them about the role of physiotherapy in rehabilitation and the value it plays in enhancing people’s lives. You will also get a chance to chat to our clients and find out about their condition and how physiotherapy is helping them. Our friendly team are always willing to answer any questions you have, and we will arrange for you to chat one of them about their path into the physiotherapy profession. We will also provide you with some time with one of our superb administrators to gain an idea of the “behind the scenes” running of a physiotherapy clinic. You will be provided with a timetable on your induction and a workbook to note anything down as well as tasks to complete to make the most of your time with us. On completion of the placement, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

This opportunity can be used to enhance a university application and can go on your CV.

Due to the time provided by our staff to arrange and support these placements, and the insurance we need to cover them, we do charge a small fee of £50 per 3 day placement.

If you are keen to apply then please complete our application form and Kate will be back in touch with you if successful. We require this information to tailor the placement to the individual, and as we have so many requests we want to ensure we offer placements to those who most need it.

Before applying to us we highly recommend you visit the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy website which has lots of useful information on physiotherapy as a career.

Physiotherapy Student Clinical Placements:

We have a working relationship with Teesside University, offering 4 and 5 week placements throughout the degree programme to students on the BSc, pre-registration MSc, and BSc apprenticeship route.  These placements are organised by the University Placement Team but we are also willing to accept applications for elective placements or from alternative universities.

Our placements are predominately in the MSK speciality, including paediatrics, with some Elderly Care case load. There are also opportunities to shadow our neurological and vestibular physiotherapist, to observe bike fits and knee brace fittings, orthotics assessments, work on-site physiotherapy clinics, and participate in, and lead, our exercise classes. Your timetable will also include time spent with one of our administrators to learn more about the running of a physiotherapy business. We offer 3 days on site in one or both of our clinics, and 2 days working on a jointly-decided project. Assessment is via the CPAF, initial objectives are set, a mid-way assessment in conducted and a final assessment at the end of the placement.

Please complete our clinical placement application form if you would like to apply for a placement with us.
