Sports injuries

Getting you back on track

As keen sportspeople ourselves, we understand just how frustrating it can be when a niggle in your hamstring, tendonitis, suspected shin splints or a sprained ankle can stop you doing what you enjoy. Physiotherapy can get you back on track, help you stay injury free and reach your full potential. Working across a number of settings, from England Netball to The Woodlands Hospital Sports Injuries Clinic, we have helped many patients to recover from their sporting injuries, and get back to doing the things they enjoy.

It may come as no surprise, but sports injuries like shin splints and tendonitis are not just for elite athletes. Whether caused by strain on a particular body part, trauma or even a poor warm up, any one of us can experience pain and discomfort when taking part in sports or exercise.

We believe in treating the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms – it helps you get better faster, with visible improvements from one visit to the next. Injuries are often due to overuse, and can reoccur unless the root cause is identified and managed effectively. We always complete a full biomechanical assessment to find the cause of your pain, and use the findings to work out an individual, tailor-made treatment programme for you and your specific injury.

We use many different techniques, but a typical programme might include a combination of joint mobilization, stretches, manipulation, massage or taping. Here at North Yorkshire Physiotherapy, we have extensive experience in successfully treating:

  • Muscle, tendon and ligament sprains and tears (e.g. hamstring strain)
  • Anterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee
  • Achille’s tendonitis
  • Sprained/twisted ankles
  • Meniscal injuries of the knee
  • Rehabilitation from shoulder dislocations
  • Shin splints
  • Recovery from stress fractures
  • Traumatic capsulitis
